what milestones isn’t the baby hitting?
Not all babies develop at the same pace! Just enjoy your baby and don’t worry about stuff like that!
i don’t know at 6 months if they can determine autism yet. maybe your baby is just slow. what isn’t he doing?
i think they say one of the more easily distinguishable signs is that the baby does not look at you. he/she is not making eye contact with you or other people. and that their attention span is virtually non-existent.
some babies develop later than others it does not mean that they have autism. you definately have to wait longer to even take the baby to get checked for autism. just dont worry yet, it will be ok. when the baby is older, like 1 or 2, and major developments arent hit, then you can worry. right now just see how it goes.
Autism Basics
There are three distinctive behaviors that characterize autism. Autistic children have difficulties with social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and repetitive behaviors or narrow, obsessive interests. These behaviors can range in impact from mild to disabling.
The hallmark feature of autism is impaired social interaction. Parents are usually the first to notice symptoms of autism in their child. As early as infancy, a baby with autism may be unresponsive to people or focus intently on one item to the exclusion of others for long periods of time. A child with autism may appear to develop normally and then withdraw and become indifferent to social engagement.
my 7yr old son has mild autism. i thought that he had down syndrome when he was a baby. i had him checked out and found out that he didn’t. he didn’t look like he did, but the way he acted was different then my older son. he seamed to be behind. in some areas he still is behind but he is so smart. he just cant talk very well. you should go to your babies doctor and talk to him/her about your concerns and if you feel like you aren’t satisfied go see a specialist. they will help you allot. i got allot of help with my son. and they were able to answer to many questions i had. and helped me understand the disability allot better.
I agree with others. Don’t worry about things like that right now. Some babies just develop slower than others. Some are early walkers, talkers, crawlers and such, and others don’t even crawl until they’re almost a year old. What milestones are you worried about him not hitting? Does he look at you and play with you? If so then you most likely have nothing to worry about, it’s rather earlyl to detect autism anyway. Enjoy your baby.
Please don’t diagnose your baby with a condition! In fact, try not to worry just yet. Autism is not diagnose until they 3 years old. If your child is not reaching developmental milestones yet… wait a bit. Remember that ALL children develop different.
I choose not to tell you what the sign of Autism are because you will “may” find those signs in your 6 month old baby and I almost guarantee he/she does not have it.
I highly suggest that you talk to the pediatrician if you’re so concerned.
I was worried about this with my son because he wouldn’t look at me early on– he wanted to look everywhere else but at me (he avoided all peoples’ eyes, actually). Turns out everything else was just more interesting, he’s now a cuddly affectionate walking jibberish-talking normal 14 month old! I’d say just try to enjoy the baby, what will come will come and you can’t change it and worrying won’t do anything. Good luck.
