Is there a difference between autism and an autistic disorder in children or are they the same?

Sharpnessa asked:

Are ADHD children getting mis-diagnosed? Is there such a disorder called “autistic disorder” that mimics ADHD? Or is autism all the same at different levels of severity?

Autism is on a spectrum. Some people with autism can be very high functioning, others will need supervision for the rest of their lives. Some people with autism experience symptoms similar to ADHD.

I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Autism varies from each individual. Some cases are not as bad as others.

I know a cousin who lives in ohio who is autistic, but he operates almost as well as any human beign

Now, however, I have a foster cousin, who knows words and can read anything, and can follow directions but cannot say a sentence.

autism is a spectrum disorder. there are some disorders that are very mild, and some that are very bad. My son was diagnosed with ADHD in 1st grade and finally with developmental delay in 5th grade.
