Is there a connection between perfect pitch and autism?

autism

I heard the right side of the brain is slightly bigger than normal, but some people are affected with perfect pitch, the ability to tell the pitch of a note on command, others with autism, and sometimes both.

Looking for opinions on the matter.

No,

On occasion people with Autism may have perfect pitch although I have not come across anyone like this. However, these special abilities are few and far between with people with autism and the two conditions are certainly not related.

I’m not aware of any scientific research that has proven a connection between the two (although I haven’t really researched it). On a personal note, I have a child with autism who does have perfect pitch, I too have perfect pitch as did my maternal Grandfather and maternal Uncle. I also have a brother on the autism spectrum who has a terrible sense of pitch. In my family there appears to be a predisposition for both of these “abnormalities” occurring separately or together. So, from the information I have from my own family tree, my opinion is that in some cases there definitely seems to be a connection. What exactly that connection is and just how frequently the two are connected would be interesting to know. Good question.
