Yes, definately. They tend to go together. (psychologist)
(a forum that many with asperger’s find very helpful)
Getting out and socially interacting is the best thing you can do for yourself! (perhaps join something where you will share an interest and won’t be focused just on people…e.g. computer class)
maybe…but probably not-some people worry more than others
I think that some of the symptoms of Asperger’s could probably help cause anxiety.
Yes, Asperger’s is linked to anxiety.
Personally, I stim to deal with it. I know, people everywhere will tell you not to, but honestly, it helps. I rock. I flap my hands. I conduct the music in the car with one hand while I drive. The one thing I would prefer not to do so much, but I can’t seem to stop, is biting the inside of my mouth. I’m chewing it right now as I type. I chew it raw sometimes. I just can’t help it, I think I’ve developed that one because it is hidden for the most part, so people can’t tell me to stop if they don’t know I’m doing it.
So indulge yourself. If you don’t stim to begin with, try indulging yourself in your special interests. Maybe try to learn to talk yourself down fro anxiety. Another thing that sometimes works for me is to read or watch or do something completely unrelated to what you’re feeling anxious about, or something that’s so complicated you have to focus on it, and do it until you feel more relaxed, or in my case until you fall asleep.
I know there are medications to help relieve anxiety, but I haven’t tried them because…well, those types of medicines, just thinking about them, makes me anxious, as if they were so strong they’d put me to sleep and I’d never wake up. So I’m too anxious to take anxiety medication, if that makes any sense.
Maybe, I have Asperger’s, but I don’t think I have high anxiety.
