I have been practicing capoeira for 6 years and I can you that what he is doing is more of a mix of capoeira, kung fu, and some break dancing. The hand and arm attacks are not the hand and arm attacks we have in capoeira, but the kicks are 90% capoeira. I can name some; chapa, martelo, scorpon kick and so forth. And is does like a micro ginga if you look closely.
It’s not demeaning at all. The film was actually made to raise autism awareness, and how autism can be a curse or blessing. There was a kid in gym class in highschool who was on the volletball team and he is autistic. He was also the best volleyball player. His autism caused him to have a near fantic love for volleyball, and as a result well, he kicked butt. This movie is to show that autism is not a disease, just a total rewiring of the brain. One of the US presidents was autistic.
Ummmmmm… What? I actually don’t even know who that is, sooo i wouldn’t know. but i thought that you were actually saying that she was actually mentally disabled. so it was a misunderstanding….
just so you know…imma girl not a boy… and I’m not obsessed with playing video games, you turd. :p
I think many of you misunderstand. Both of the combatants are SAVANTS – people who, in spite of their “handicaps”, have developed incredible skills. It is not fiction and it is not as rare as you might think. Both of these characters could have been pulled from one of Oliver Sacks’ books on neuropsychology. Look up “autistic savant” or “Temple Grandin” (lots here on YouTube). This fight does NOT demean either of the participants – they are THE BEST in the film.
The autism reference is from the main character, the girl there.
It is not making fun of autistic people, it’s what makes her such a genius fighter. See, there’s an underlying theme in the movie that says autism can be a curse and/or a blessing. It doesn’t mean autistic people can do that stuff, but then again there’s a lot of different levels of autism.
This looks more Break Dancing then actual Capoeira. He did more flashy dance moves then real attacks, I don’t think he was meant to be thought as a capoeirista.

that guy is so jumpy, he looks like he has Tourette’s

having an autistic brother, it’s totally demeaning, and sends the wrong message.

this is not funny
so what’s with the autism reference??
hahhahah freak!!!!!
whether it was capo or brkdance, it was still cool and this was an awesome fight
It’s not really Muay Thai versus Capoeira so much as autism versus Tourette’s syndrome.
And while this is sort of Capoeira, it does really look more breakdancing. Breakdancing after a serious head injury.
